Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, a dexter gauntlet fesswise Proper grasping a winged weapon point to base in pale Tenn (Golden Orange).  Attached below the shield a Blue scroll doubled and inscribed STRIKE DEEP in Silver.

Symbolism
Ultramarine blue and golden orange are the colors of the Aviation Branch.  The gauntlet grasping a winged weapon symbolizes the highly flexible and maneuverable aerial combat power of the unit and its mission to destroy enemy armored and mechanized targets.  The downward thrust of the weapon reflects the units motto.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 July 1987.
